The Historic Roll Call – The Notable, The Innocent, And The Notoriue

By: Teresa Todd

Quietly at rest, atop the hill of Athens City Cemetery lays the grit and fortitude of the forefathers who built Athens-Limestone County.

On October 3, you will step into the former world of those who shaped our towns and county. Teresa Todd, Director for Athens-Limestone County Tourism said, “These spirits will come alive with tales of history, heritage, family, and community. Local residents become actors in period attire; many of them will be descendants of the very people they are portraying.”The day of storytelling from yesteryear begins at 2 p.m. with tales woven from passed-down family history and speckled with tales of a burgeoning community — their successes, their struggles, and even the war. Each actor has diligently researched their “spirit” and their life in the days of old. This free public event will run until 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 3.Todd continued to say, “We honor our past by sharing our stories and history. There is no better way to learn your history than in our Athens Cemetery Stroll and hearing it from our experienced and passionate storytellers.”The event is presented by the Athens-Limestone County Tourism and Sons of the Confederate Veterans as a quality-of-life event.

WE ARE ACCEPTING ACTORS FOR THIS YEAR’S STROLL. IF INTERESTED, CONTACT THE ATHENS-LIMESTONE TOURISM OFFICE 256-232-5411 FOR INFORMATION.  Athens Cemetery Stroll Sunday, October 3, 2-4 p.m. in the Athens City Cemetery
