Not only has spring fully sprung, but it’s “bustin’ out all over, and places like the Library are fully coming back from COVID by planning events that you can actually attend in person and enjoy as a community.
On Saturday, June 5, the Athens-Limestone Public Library is throwing a party, and everyone on the staff and the Library Foundation wants you to come! It will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“The Summer Reading Program itself has events and programs for all ages, including: baby, toddler, family, tween, and teen! The kick-off party event will have activities and events that are mostly geared toward children who enjoy Play-doh, storytelling, temporary tattoos, and games such as ‘Fishing for a Prize’,” said Jennifer Baxter, our new librarian.
As I spoke with Jennifer, it was obvious that she is so glad to be able to offer hope that the days of the library being about as empty as an airplane hangar are finally over. To be sure, the Athens-Limestone Public Library opened back up as soon as it was safe to do so and followed all the guidelines, but people stayed away from the library pretty much like they did from everything else. Jennifer was thankful for how everyone worked together during that difficult time, and her smile indicated to me how excited she is for this summer to get going. Already there has been the sound of giggles from “younguns” pretending to be Princess Leia, and there will be more to come. Jennifer is also thankful for the local businesses that have been steadily supportive throughout our “COVID Capers.” She particularly wanted to thank New Leaf Medical Clinic, Ming Enterprises, and Listerhill Credit Union for being sponsors of the reading programs.
Mark your calendars for June 5 and chart your course for the Library. A whole world waits to re-join you!
