Healthy Eating Is Not Complicated

By: Nick Niedzwiecki

Healthy eating does not have to be complicated. Many people believe they need expensive ingredients, complicated recipes, or hours in the kitchen to improve their health. In reality, some of the healthiest meals are often the simplest.

The Mediterranean style of eating has become popular because it focuses on real, minimally processed foods that support long-term health. Instead of relying on packaged meals or fad diets, Mediterranean meals are built around lean proteins, vegetables, healthy fats, and simple carbohydrates. The goal is not perfection or restriction. The goal is creating meals that fuel your body, improve energy levels, and support overall wellness.

At CrossFit Athens, we encourage people to simplify nutrition and focus on consistency. Healthy eating should fit into your life, not make your life harder. One of the easiest ways to do this is by preparing meals with just a handful of quality ingredients that can be found in any grocery store.

Here is a simple Mediterranean-inspired recipe that uses only five ingredients and can be prepared in almost any kitchen.

Mediterranean Power Bowl

Ingredients:
• Protein of choice
• Rice or quinoa
• Cherry tomatoes
• Cucumber
• Tzatziki sauce

Directions:
Cook the rice or quinoa according to package directions. While it cooks, prepare your protein source and chop the cucumber and tomatoes. Add everything into a bowl and top with tzatziki sauce.

This recipe is quick, affordable, and easy to make ahead for lunches or dinners throughout the week.

Protein Options:
• Chicken breast for a lean and classic option
• Ground turkey for something budget friendly
• Salmon for healthy fats and extra flavor
• Steak for a higher protein choice
• Chickpeas for a plant based option

Meals like this work because they are realistic. You do not need to be a professional chef or spend hours cooking to eat healthier. When meals are simple, people are far more likely to stay consistent with them.

Consistency is what creates results. Eating one healthy meal will not change your life overnight, but building habits around whole foods over time can improve energy, recovery, strength, and overall health. Many people spend too much time looking for the perfect diet when they would benefit more from simply eating real food more often.

Healthy eating should support your life, not add stress to it. Start with simple meals, simple ingredients, and simple habits. Focus on meals that help you feel better, move better, and live healthier for years to come.
