“Courage is knowing it might hurt and doing it anyway. Stupidity is the same, and that’s why life is hard.” Jeremy Goldberg
I read this quote this week on a friend’s Facebook page and honestly, I am not sure I agree with it at all. You see, courage is having the mental and moral strength to withstand a trial in your life and face your fears. Stupidity is acting in an unintelligent and careless way or making unintelligent decisions.
It is true that life is hard, but with the Lord’s help, we can face it courageously. The word courage is in the Bible over 100 times. Jesus himself is a picture of courage. He gave his life to save the entire world; that was a decision he made with courage, not stupidity. He knew the sacrifice he was making and did it willingly.
The Bible is full of verses that spur us on to live courageously:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18
“Be of good courage, and let us be courageous for our people, and or the cities of our God, and may the Lord do what seems good to him.” 2 Samuel 10:12
So be courageous and stand firm in your faith. The Lord will help you in all situations and will guide your steps. Life is hard but with the Lord’s help, you can face it with courage.
