2023 Begins With Honors, Signings And Milestones

All-state football teams were announced that included James Clemens’ Gio Lopez (Class 7A first team) and teammates Jamal Mayers and Ty Doughty (second team). Clements’ Jayden Gilbert made 3A second team.

Congratulations to James Clemens’ Emma Plummer for her soccer scholarship to Auburn-Montgomery and Hunter Harris on his commitment to Columbia State Community College baseball. Athens Bible School’s Hannah Britnell signed a cross-country scholarship with Southern Union. East Limestone’s Raegan Kelley made a soccer commitment to East Central Community College. Ardmore softball’s Ella Singletary and Addison Kilgore inked with UT-Southern and Andrew College respectively.

Three local basketball players recently hit the 1,000-point mark: Congratulations to Athens Bible School’s Brayden Suggs, Elkmont’s Tylee Thomas and Tanner’s Skylar Townsend.

Indoor Track:

At the Icebreaker meet, James Clemens’ boys’ 4×800-meter relay team won their event, the boys’ and girls’ 4×400 teams were second and third and the Jets’ Benjamin Thomason was third in the long jump. At the JV Meet #2, James Clemens’ Lucas Downing won the high jump with Lindsay Lane’s Kade Kirkpatrick as runner-up. Athens High’s Jayshon Ridgle won the boys’ 60-meter hurdles at the Martin Luther King Indoor Classic #1; Malea Wiggins finished second in the girls’ shotput. At the #2 meet, James Clemens’ boys’ and girls’ 4×800-meter relay teams finished second; the boys’ 4×400-meter team was third. Tramani Osley was also third in the girls’ triple jump.
